The Division of Informal Jewish Education
The Division of Informal Jewish Education known as the DIJE, is at the heart of King David. Trendsetters in Jewish education, this idea of Jewish, informal immersive learning has been integrated into King David school life since the 1990s. Our experiential approach fosters learning through doing, in informal and engaging environments, powered by a team of young, passionate role models who walk the talk.
Some of our incredible DIJE initiatives include:
Shabbatonim
One of the standout experiences of grade 7-9, Shabbatonim offers students a jam-packed weekend to experience an authentic Shabbat, cutting-edge programming, friendship, mentorship, self-awareness and belonging.
Encounter
This weeklong retreat is a life-changing experiential journey into Jewish identity, global citizenship and personal agency to create a life of meaning and purpose. Students look forward to Encounter for years and many past students pinpoint this as the pinnacle of their Grade 11 year. This experience comes as they contemplate decisions that will impact their continued participation in Jewish communal life well beyond their school years.
DIJE PLUS
The largest opt-in Jewish youth school programme, DIJE PLUS provides grade 9-11 students weekly group learning with an experienced, informal Jewish educator).
Connection to this person helps provide the continuity and mentorship essential to integration of Jewish values and practice. DIJE Plus includes 10 learning sessions a year as well as Shabbat and Chagim hosting, and powerful immersive experiences.
